What would make you happy?
Do you know that happiness is something you have to give to yourself. Most people look
for happiness from other people or other things, always something that is outside themselves.
For many people this search continues their whole life, and they never “find” happiness.
Happiness does not lie in some outside circumstance, person, place or thing. Happiness is
found within you.
For many years I looked for happiness from the trips I took, or the clubs I went to or
even the I things the important men in life bought me. They made me happy for a short time,
but it never lasted long. I was always looking for someone or something to make me happy.
And when I wasn’t happy I would blame the other person for not making me happy. Why couldn’t
he teate me better or buy me that thing, or be more romantic? I never thought to look for
ways to make myself happy.
Until a few years ago I never know that I could choose happiness at any time. I never know
that I could choose how I was going to let the outside events and circumstances effect me.
That even in the very difficult or the very harsh circumstances I could choose peace, I
could choose forgiveness, that I could choose choose happiness. That it was up to me and will
always be up to me by how I choose to react to what is happening in my life.
In order for you to be able to use your power to choose happiness, you need to know what
happiness is. Happiness is different for everyone, as all people are unique individuals, with
thier own likes and dislikes. I would highly encourage you to get quiet and do some deep
reflection on what happiness looks like for you.
What does happiness feel like for you? Think back to times when you felt incredible happiness.
Perhaps it has been a long time, maybe when you were a child. Close your eyes and allow your
mind to bring you an image of when you were the most happy in your life. What does that look like?
What does that feel like?
What can you do now in your life to feel that happiness?
A lot of people never attain true happiness because they are constantly making it a future occurrence.
People are constantly saying things like:
“I’ll be happy when I have a new job.”
“I’ll be happy when I meet my soul mate.”
“I’ll be happy when so and so doesn’t work with me anymore.”
“I’ll be happy when so and so apologizes to me.”
“I’ll be happy when I have a new home.”
“I’ll be happy when…”
These phrases constantly keep happiness at a future place. You see, the way the Universe works is when you
exude a vibration of happiness then you attract the things that will match that vibration. So as long as you
depend on an outside source in the future to bring you happiness, you will probably never attract what it is
that you want, that you think will bring you happiness.
How can you experience happiness now?
- It will require you to re frame your ways of thinking.
2. It will require you to focus on the things that help you to feel happiness now.
3. Focus on those things with a powerful feeling of gratitude.
By becoming aware of what you are thinking about most of the time, you will be able to see how often you think about what you want to happen in your life. Most of the time people think about the future or the past. Start to think about what you are doing right now. And start to think about what you want to happen in your life.
Think about your children that you love, think about some of the funny things they do. Think about some of the things you love to do and do them more often. If you enjoy music, listen to music. Find ways to change your thought to positive thoughts. Think about what things make you happy.
Gratitude may be your greatest tool for creating happiness in your life now. When you begin to focus on what you are grateful for, you can’t help but feel happy.
I would highly encourage you to take time every morning or evening and sit and write what you are grateful. It doesn’t have to be a certain amount of things, just go with your own flow. Starting off you may only write one or two things. After a while, if you stay consistent with writing every day, you will notice more and more things to be grateful for. I would also encourage you to practice saying thank you and acknowledging what you are grateful for during the day. Just in your head say thank you or I am grateful for whatever it is that you notice you are grateful for. Maybe you are grateful for a smile that someone gave you, or the fact that you have a car to transport you, or you have food to eat and a place to live, or the fact that you are alive.
Happiness can be yours now. It is up to you to make the choice to claim your happiness. Remember, you are an amazing person and you deserve to be happy.
